Winchester Rifles for Sale Online in Detroit, Michigan
Winchester rifles are a series of lever-action repeating rifles produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. They were among the earliest repeaters, and are now considered an American classic. Since 1883, John Moses Browning, one of the most famous gunsmiths in history, entered a partnership with Winchester. He designed the company’s most successful models.
Early Winchester Models
Winchester’s first rifle, the Model 1866, was an improved version of the Henry rifle design, retaining the .44 Henry cartridge, but featuring an improved magazine and a forearm made of wood. It received the nickname “Yellow Boy” because of its receiver made of gunmetal – a bronze/brass alloy.
The Model 1973 was named “The Gun that Won the West,” and it was one of the most successful rifles of its day. It was produced between 1873 and 1923, and it remains an icon to this day.
The Model 1876, also called the “Centennial Model,” was heavier-framed than the previous models, and chambered for full-powered centerfire rifle cartridges, which are used for big game hunting.
The Winchester Model 1895 was the first Winchester lever-action rifle to load from a box magazine instead of a tube under the barrel. This rifle was used by the military forces of several nations, such as the United States, Imperial Russia, and Great Britain.
Sixty years passed before Winchester came out with a new model, but Model 88 was unlike any previous lever-action rifle. It was more like a lever-operated bolt action.
In 1972, Model 9422 was introduced to the market, and, unlike older models, it came grooved for scope mounting. It came available in .22 Long Rifle and .22 WMR.
